Because surface coatings can interfere with the electrical current required for welding, they are typically supplied in Plain or Uncoated finishes, or with a Light Oil to prevent flash rust. Stainless steel variants may undergo passivation.

Key international standards include DIN 928 (square weld nuts), DIN 929 (hexagon weld nuts), DIN 977, ISO 21670, ASTM A193, ASTM A194, and ASTM A563. They are available across a range of thread types, including Metric, Unified National Coarse (UNC), and Unified National Fine (UNF). Once properly installed, they offer exceptional mechanical properties, boasting extreme vibration resistance, heavy load capacity, and high torque resistance, effectively preventing rotation when the mating bolt is tightened.
